The Xpeng P7: Better Than the Tesla S

The large electric sedan is three times cheaper than the American Tesla S, but is only available in China.

Xpeng Motors has opened sales for its second model — the Xpeng P7 — in China. The new car costs from ¥240.000 or $34.000. Customers will start receiving cars in the second quarter of 2020.

The Tesla Model S, which all the EV designers look up to, is not yet produced in China. Perhaps, with the launch of the Chinese Tesla factory, car prices will decrease on the domestic market, but now the popular electric sedan is sold in China for at least ¥794.000 or $113.000. However, the Model 3 will be the first car to be manufactured in Shanghai, so the Xpeng P7 has enough time to gain a strong position on the Chinese market.

The basic Xpeng P7 is equipped with a single electric engine on the rear axle, which produces 267 hp and 390 Nm. The rear-wheel drive P7 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. An 80.9 kwhr battery pack guarantees a 550-km drive range (NEDC).

The top-end configuration is equipped with electric engines on each axis, which provide the car with an all-wheel drive transmission and produce 430 hp and 660 Nm. This configuration accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds.

The Xpeng P7 features a high-end equipment and finishing: expensive interior materials, a virtual dashboard with a 10.25-inch display and a multimedia system with a 14.97-inch monitor that can be controlled using a touchpad. In addition, the electric car supports the Level 3 autonomous driving with automatic parking and lane selections for highways.
