Audi Has Unveiled Its Most Powerful EV

Audi has declassified a three-engined modification of the e-tron S and the coupe-like e-tron S Sportback.

The Audi e-tron S is the first large-scale electric vehicle with three engines. The new model has debuted in two versions at once — the standard e-tron S and the e-tron S Sportback. Visually, the S models can be distinguished by expanded wheel arches, different decor and new nameplates. The interior has seats with reinforced side support and a distinctive finish.

Regardless of the body type, the e-tron S is equipped with three electric motors: one on the front axle and two on the rear one. Each of the rear motors is equipped with its own control unit and a single-stage gearbox and is responsible for its own wheel. This allows adjusting the traction on the left and right independently.

A total power output of the engines is 503 hp and 973 Nm, but it is only available for 8 seconds. The nominal figures are lower, but they have not yet been announced. Most of the time, the Audi e-tron S is driven by the rear engines, the front one can be connected if necessary. A 0-100 km/h time is stated to be 4.5 seconds. A top speed is 210 km/h. For comparison, a 408-hp two-engined modification of the Audi e-tron 55 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.

A 95-kWh battery pack provides the Audi e-tron quattro S with a 359-km all-electric range and the e‐tron S Sportback with a 364-km range (WLTP).

The Audi e-tron S is equipped with more powerful front brakes with 6-piston mechanisms and a reconfigured air suspension, which allows you to change the clearance in the range of 76 mm. New front air intakes are equipped with electronically controlled flaps. Their task is to improve dynamics (by reducing aerodynamic drag), which is what the S-versions are focused on. The system opens them itself when necessary.
