BMW Has Released a Special Version of the 8-Series in Japanese Style

The 8-Series Gran Coupe Kyoto Edition is dedicated to the Land of the Rising Sun.

BMW has developed a special version of the 8-Series Gran Coupe, the interior of which is hand-decorated with Japanese ornaments. Only three Kyoto Edition cars were released: they differ from standard sedans in a unique interior finish, an alternative dark blue body color and decor.

The exterior of the BMW 8-Series Gran Coupe Kyoto Edition can be identified by the BMW Individual Manufaktur engraving on the B-pillar and the chrome-plated 20-inch multi-spoke wheels. Major design features of the sedan are inside.

The center console, both front and back, is hand-painted by Shiho Okada, an artist from Kyoto, Japan. The ornament symbolizes the «art of running». It is noted that the technology of painting dishes in the Kyoto style originated before our era.

1500 years ago, lacquered products from Kyoto became popular with the aristocracy. The combination of the traditional Japanese culture pattern and the BMW technology is the quintessence of the «new luxury».

Other features of the interior include two-tone leather upholstery, two-part panoramic roof, and specially woven silk and Alcantara pillows made by Japanese weavers. The configuration is very rich, because you cannot personalize the special edition.

Technically, the Kyoto Edition is identical to the regular M850i xDrive Gran Coupe: it is equipped with a 4.4-liter 530-hp (750 Nm) biturbo petrol V8, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and full-wheel drive.
