BYD Introduces Competitor to Volkswagen ID.3 for Taxi Services

The new car is the manufacturer’s first model developed in conjunction with the transport conglomerate DiDi.

China-based BYD has introduced a new electric vehicle that is similar in size and design to the acclaimed Volkswagen ID.3. Unlike its German competitor, the Chinese BYD D1 is geared to provide taxi and car-sharing services.

It is no coincidence that the EV has such specialization. DiDi, specializing in transportation services, took part in the development of the BYD D1. Now, DiDi has its own model, which they plan to offer to customers. It took three years to develop.

Since the new Chinese car was originally conceived as a taxi, the manufacturer has provided one feature – a sliding door with an electric drive on the right. It will greatly facilitate access to the interior. There is no such “luxury” on the left side. There is a regular swing door.

The interior is designed as comfortable as possible. It seems spacious even in photos. The BYD D1 is equipped with a large center touchscreen for the convenience of passengers and another additional & smaller tablet for a driver.

The interior is dominated by wear-resistant materials. This will allow keeping the interior in its original form for as long as possible and extend the service life, which is especially important for taxi services.

The new BYD D1 is powered by a 136-hp electric motor. A full battery charge allows you to travel 418 km. It is worth noting that the capacity of the battery pack is not announced. The format of the new car is generally similar to that of the VW ID. 3, but its design has still turned out to be original – the D1 looks very nice.
