Following the Skoda Octavia and the Elantra: Hyundai Is Preparing an Awesome Sedan

The premiere of the updated Hyundai Lafesta is expected in late 2020 or early 2021.

The main task of the refreshed coupe-like sedan will be to attract the attention of customers, mostly young, which the model was initially focused on. It will have to compete for the customer with the very popular on the domestic market Skoda Octavia, which has recently been upgraded.

Due to the crisis and pandemic, the demand for the Hyundai Lafesta is rapidly falling. According to the latest data, in January-March 2020, the company was able to sell only 7,000 sedans. For comparison, in 2019, sales of Lafesta exceeded 99,000 units. Only the Elantra and ix35, which took the first and second places at the end of the year, were sold better.

It is not yet known what the updated model will be. It is assumed that the new vehicle will differ from the previous sedan in a redesigned radiator grille and bumper, upgraded headlights and taillights, an expanded list of available equipment and a new interior trim. The Lafesta can be designed in the style of the new Hyundai Elantra, which is due to be released soon.

The engine line will remain the same: a 1.4-liter turbo petrol t-GDI I4 (140 hp, 242 Nm) and a 1.6-liter T-GDI I4 in two boost variants (190 hp/265 Nm or 204 hp/265 Nm). The new model will have a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and a FWD drivetrain. The current model also has an all-electric version with a 184-hp electric motor and a 56.5-kWh battery pack. Its drive range is 490 km (NEDC). The eco-friendly sedans were released only in March 2020.

According to Cheshi, the updated sedan will have the N Line variant. Thus, the Lafesta will be the first model of the brand with such a body kit in China.

The N Line version is available for the i10, i30 series and Tucson SUV, but these models are not available on the domestic market. In the future, the «sports» variant will released for new Elantra and Sonata, what has already been officially announced. The N Line versions differ from the standard models in their original radiator grille, more aggressive body kit, and reconfigured suspension.
