FWD BMW 128ti With 265-HP Engine Unveiled

The hatchback will be released in November 2020.

Three new models appeared in the line-up of the petrol BMW 1 Series at once. The most interesting of them is the 128ti. This sports car is already comes standard with an M Sport suspension and special settings, a mechanical differential of increased friction, M Sport brakes and a 265-hp turbo engine.

The new BMW 128ti will occupy a niche between the BMW 120i (178 hp, 280 Nm) and the all-wheel drive M135i xDrive (306 hp, 450 Nm) available from this fall. In contrast to the M Models, the Turismo Internazionale has retained front-wheel drive, so that it is distanced from the younger 1 Series models by a special design, an expanded set of standard equipment and, of course, an engine, namely a 2.0-liter turbo V4 (265 hp and 400 Nm. The unit works in conjunction with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission.

The BMW 128ti accelerates to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds. For comparison, the BMW 120i — 7 seconds, and the M135i xDrive — 4.8 seconds.

Also, the sports hatchback has an M Sport suspension reduced by 10 mm; stiffer springs, dampers, stabilizer bars and supports; a Torsen mechanical limited-slip front differential (acceleration locking factor – 31%, braking locking factor — 26 %); steering adjusted for “involvement in the driving process”; and M Sport brakes with four piston single housing calipers and floating rear disc brake calipers (disc size — 360 x 300 x 30 and 20 mm, respectively).

The BMW 128ti is visually distinguish from other modifications with the M Sport package by bright accents on the front bumper and sills, plus the Extended Shadowline decor with black elements (included in the standard equipment for Germany), 18-inch wheels (that can be shod in tenacious Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires), and 90-mm exhaust nozzles. The main feature of the interior is a combination of artificial Sensatec leather and fabric upholstery, red accents and stitching, as well as M accessories (seat belts, pedal pads and sills).

In addition to the BMW 128ti and 120i, there is the 116i model. This hatchback is equipped with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbo engine with a power output of 109 hp and 190 Nm. It comes with a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed semi-automatic transmission. A 0-100 km/h time is 10.6 seconds.

Sports seats upholstered in Dakota leather (genuine leather with synthetic dyes and an adjusted front surface), an infotainment system that runs on OS 7.0, BMW Live Cockpit Professional and a projection display are available for surcharge.

The BMW 128ti will be released in November 2020. In Germany, it will cost at least €41,575. The BMW M135i xDrive can be purchased for €48,252.
