Honda’s Smallest SUV Is Rushing to Customers

The upgraded Honda WR-V SUV will be released soon.

The Honda WR-V was shown for the first time in 2016. The SUV was based on the Jazz/Fit of the previous generation. Production of the new model was established at the company's Indian and Brazilian factories. Now, it is time for a facelift. India will be the first to receive the updated vehicle.

It is probably no coincidence that India was chosen as the first market. The SUV has already lost its customers there. In 2019, only 19,947 cars were sold in the domestic market, which is almost 50% less than the year before.

The first photos of the updated SUV were published by Honda Cars India in early spring. Then, only the exterior design was unveiled. Now, as the SUV arrives at dealerships, real footage, including photos of the interior, have begun to appear in the Internet.

The updated Honda WR-V has received a redesigned radiator grille with horizontal ribs instead of the usual honeycomb. Fog lights are now located in black plastic blocks. The SUV also features LED headlights. As for overall dimensions, they have likely remained the same. The length and wheelbase of the previous generation model is 3999 mm and 2555 mm, respectively.

Inside, everything was much more prosaic – there are no innovations. The list of equipment is the same. This is probably why the manufacturer was in no hurry to show pictures of the WR-V interior.

The engine line remained unchanged: a 1.2-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated i-VTEC engine with a power output of 90 hp and a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel i-DTEC unit that produces 100 hp. The two engines have been modified and now correspond to the BS6 eco standards (similar to Euro 6). Presumably, the gearbox will be the same for both variants – a 5-speed manual transmission, although the current diesel WR-V is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The model is expected to be only front-wheel drive.

The updated Honda WR-V crossover is expected to be released in India in the near future. Prices have not yet been announced. Its predecessor costs from 815,000 rupees ($10,750).
