New Hyundai Sedan Revealed

The premiere of the three-box Mistra will take place before the end of the year.

Chinese journalists have revealed Hyundai’s new sedan. The Hyundai Mistra, a model for the local market that is slightly smaller and cheaper than the Sonata and is considered a low-cost alternative, is being prepared for the upgrade.

The dimensions of the new Hyundai Mistra have been published by the Chinese Ministry of industry and Trade: length – 4,780 mm (+70 mm), width – 1,815 mm, height – 1,460 mm (slightly reduced), wheelbase — 2,770 mm. Probably, the model is based on a stretched front-wheel drive chassis of the previous generation i30 hatchback.

The body is completely new: the design of the front end is stylized as the local Creta, and the coupe-like silhouette and rear end are similar to these of the Sonata. There are several design radiator grille options: design depends on the type of powertrain and configuration.

The interior of the Hyundai Mistra has been transformed: it is tailored to the patterns of the Chinese Sonata, although the new model does not have a push-button control panel for selecting driving modes. But there is a new four-spoke steering wheel, a digital dashboard that is integrated with an infotainment system, and a touch-sensitive climate control unit.

It is known that the second-generation Hyundai Mistra will receive a new 1.5-liter 170-hp turbo engine (it will replace a 1.6-liter 175-hp turbo V4 T-GDi). The original 1.8-liter 143-hp naturally aspirated engine will remain in the line-up.

There is no information about transmissions, but it can be assumed that the naturally aspirated unit will come with a 6-speed automatic gearbox and the turbo T-GDi engine — with a 7-speed DCT. The Mistra EV will receive a 183-hp electric motor. Information about the traction battery will be published later.

The premiere of the second-generation Hyundai Mistra will probably take place before the end of 2020, and the new car will be released in China in the first quarter of 2021. The Mistra will probably be about a quarter cheaper than the Sonata, so internal competition between the models will be minimal.
