Seat Introduces the New Ateca SUV in the Tarraco Style

Planned restyling should help the model achieve a high level of sales. The 2021 Seat Ateca looks more modern.

Introduced a few years ago, the Ateca was Seat’s first SUV. The new vehicle was considered the closest relative of the Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Karoq. As the manufacturer expected, it should have pleased with the proper level of sales, but this did not happen. In 2019, Seat sold 90,000 Atecas, while the Karoq’s sales totaled 105,000 units. The Tiguan has an even bigger result — 265,000. Seat expects that the new facelift can correct the situation. Perhaps, a new look, interior and engine range will contribute to this.

The upgraded Spanish SUV is easily recognized by a new hexagonal radiator grille, different headlights, and taillights with dynamic turn signals. A redesigned tailgate is decorated with a new nameplate of the brand. The new off-road Xperience modification is recognized by increased air intakes and a body kit with large silver inserts. Overall, the car now resembles the older Seat Tarraco.

As for the changes in the interior, everything is quite modest. The interior features redesigned door panels, a new heated steering wheel, and a set consisting of a virtual dashboard with a 10.25-inch display and an 8.0-inch multimedia console. It is also worth noting new interior trim materials. An electric driver's seat, heated windshield, adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping system are available for an additional fee.

Changes in the engine range affected a 1.0-liter TSI petrol turbo engine, which is available only with a manual transmission. However, after the update, it lost 5 hp (up to 110 hp). The place of the previous 1.4-liter turbo TSI was taken by a new 1.5-liter 150-hp engine. It comes with a DSG gearbox and an AWD drivetrain for an additional fee. The older 2.0-liter 190-hp petrol engine remained the same. The DSG automatic transmission and an AWD drivetrain are set by default.

The 1.6-liter TDI diesel engine was replaced by a new 2.0-liter engine in two boost versions (115 hp and 150 hp). A more powerful version is optionally offered with an automatic gearbox and an AWD drivetrain.

The 2021 Seat Ateca will be produced at Skoda’s factory in Kvasiny. Prices will be known closer to the start of sales.
