This Electric Rivian Performs a Tank Turn on the Spot

No other car can do that, at least for now.

To make a tank turn in the spot, the pickup’s wheels on the right side rotate in the opposite direction from the ones on the left side. Clever invention from Rivian. Four independent electric motors allow the Rivian R1T to perform a spectacular trick. The same feature was promised to be implemented in the R1S.

A tank turn can be very useful off-road. It is better to perform a turn only on soil, gravel or snow but not on dry asphalt, as this may damage a powertrain system.

The Rivian R1T and R1S have similar powertrains with 200-hp electric engines that are powered by batteries with a capacity of 105, 135 or 180 kwhr. Production will start very soon. The company promises to start delivering cars to customers in 2020.
