Chinese Electric Vehicle Explodes While Charging

The incident occurred in Sanming, China.

An eyewitness video of an electric vehicle exploding at a charging station in Sanming in southern China has appeared online. According to local media, the car was connected to a charger at the time of the explosion.

Judging by the footage, it could be one of Tesla's Chinese competitors; a BAIC EX360, or a hybrid car of the same brand.

The car started smoldering almost as soon as it was connected to the charger. The owner called firefighters, who arrived at the scene and tried to cool the car with cold water: the video shows that they directed the jet at its rear end.

However, this did not work. After a few minutes, the electric vehicle exploded. Body panels flew apart, punching a hole in the roof of the gas station. It is not known what caused the incident. Fortunately, passers-by, like the owner, kept their distance from the burning car, and no one was injured.

This is not the first case of spontaneous combustion of an electric vehicle. Last year, it was reported about a Hyundai Kona that exploded while charging and a Tesla Model S that caught fire in a parking lot for no apparent reason. Later, Tesla found out that the cause of spontaneous combustion of the car was a defective battery module.
